About Me

I’m originally from Yorkshire although I haven’t really spent that much time there recently. I studied up in Newcastle University for 4 years – fantastic place and would recommend it to anyone. After uni, I travelled around the world with my girlfriend which was by far the best thing I’ve ever done… absolutely amazing – I’ll definitely do it again sometime! It was definitely travelling that got me into cooking; seeing all the different flavours and ingredients people use around the world… it’s fascinating.

I now live in Crouch End in North London which is a really cool place. Loads of restaurants and a really awesome vibe around the place. The problem with having restaurants on your doorstep though is that it takes some real restraint not to spend a packet each month!

I’m not really a chef by trade at all, in fact at uni I hardly cooked anything – the lure of a £1.25 chip butty was just far too much for me! Since then though I’ve really got into cooking. People like Jamie Oliver really inspire me as it’s the simple stuff that I get my kicks out of; I’m not really interested in making really extravagant gourmet food, but maybe I will one day… who knows. I think the joy in cooking is definitely cooking for others and the reaction on their faces when they really enjoy the food…fantastic!

The main things I will try and keep in mind as I write this blog are:

  • Low cost meals
  • Good quality produce
  • Healthy meals
  • Easy to make
  • …and finally… Tastes Great!

Quite a long list I know, and it will be difficult to include all of them but I’ll give it a good go. I hope you like the blog – please post and comments, questions, criticisms or suggestions that you may have – I’m always looking for ways to improve and receiving feedback is the best way, plus it will help others out too.

Thanks

Sco

Sco, I enjoyed reading through your blog and learning about your adventures and cooking. Some of your recipes will be on my menu in the near future… thank you! Perhaps you and your readers would enjoy looking at my blog, Recipes of a Renaissance Man which can be found at http://tastyfrugalquickmeals.wordpress.com/ I have described my blog as ramblings about my life with a focus on my cooking adventures. As you’ll read in my blog, I am British and lived in London and Provence and now make my home in the San Francisco Bay Area. My cooking ideas are primarily inspired by my love of Provencal Country Cooking, but I need to bone up on some other cuisines, so I’ll be checking back to your site and will put it on my blogroll…… Cheers and Bon Appetit !! Zebatron.

      Hi,

Thanks for your comments – really like the start you’ve made, and I’ll agree with tspoon that the Red Lentil soup does look great. One bit of advice – I think you need some sort of navigation bar as the recipe’s (although your only just starting out) are quite difficult to find.

Good site and will add you to my blogroll.
